The Accelerated Reading Program
Spring Valley Elementary District 99 has implemented the Accelerated Reader Enterprise package that makes available over 100,000 accelerated quizzes to our students. We are very excited that the students are able to broaden their reading experience and continue to meet requirements set by the classroom teachers. The Enterprise package opens up the classroom, home, and public libraries to the students providing all with the opportunity to succeed.
The Accelerated Reading program has been a big part of the school's reading curriculum for many years. Students are encouraged to choose a book that is right for them and after reading the book can take a quiz on that book on a school computer. Students will earn points if they pass the quiz. Teachers use the results and evaluate if the child is succeeding and the librarian can direct students to choose a book at a lower level if they are not, or a higher level when they are. The librarian manages the program and the classroom teachers determine how the program will work in their classrooms.
Mrs.Sment has worked closely with the Spring Valley Public Library and has provided them with resources to use when students choose to use the public library. If you want to check to see if a book is an Accelerated Reader at home, log on to your computer and go to the Renaissance Learning website.
