Hello all! I
would like to welcome you to the
2009-2010
school year at JFK. My name is
Jessica
Strouss. I am very eager to work with
your child and
help them become a successful
student and
community member.
This is my
5th year teaching at JFK. I began
teaching
in
a 5th/6th grade Special Education
class my
first year here.
With help from colleagues,
I
developed and implemented a
Life Skills based
program which
has evolved into a
Functional
Academic
program.

Before I
started teaching in Spring Valley, I attended
Illinois
State
University, one of the top
teaching
colleges
in
the country. I received my
Bachelors
in
Special Education and
continue to strengthen
my
skills in this area. I
am currently working
towards
obtaining a Masters
degree in Special
Education
related
to Behavioral
Intervention,
Curriculum
Adaptation, Multiple
Disabilities,
Transition,
and Assistive Technology.
My team at JFK
is amazing to work with. We have
developed
and continue
to improve our F.A.S.E.S.
program. The
team includes
Lynette Lucas
(Speech/Language
Pathologist), Cindy
Penzenik
(Physical Therapist), Judy Sipovic
(Classroom
Aide), Karry
Kurtz (Classroom Aide), and Martha Jacobs (Classroom
Aide).
We all work
together to make the most of our school
days
helping to
develop very structured and research
based
individualized instruction for each student.
I can’t wait
to get to know your student
throughout
this
school year.
Please contact me
with any
questions or
concerns.
